In 2011, over 40% of the population of Woolwich Riverside and Woolwich Common reported being born outside the United Kingdom. The center of Woolwich is about 8.5 miles (13.7 km) east of Charing Cross, the central gauging point in London, on the south bank of the River Thames. About 25% of the population in the two central wards were on benefits in 2011 (compared to 15% across London as a whole). Of the population over the age of 18, 31% had a higher education; nevertheless, less than 8% could be counted among senior staff. Nearly 47% of the population was white, 30% was black, 15% was Asian, and 8% was Arab or mixed race. In 2011, 30% of the total population was younger than 20 years, 47% was between 20 and 44 years old and 17% was between 45 and 64 years old. The final match was against Crewe Alexandra and Crewe led 2–0 after the first half, Burnley and Tranmere looked to be winning their match which would see Torquay relegated but eventually the club drew in stoppage time to draw level with Lincoln City who were relegated. Wolverhampton Wanderers' return to the Premier League resulted in a seventh-place finish in their first season.
Wolves finished in 17th place (39 points on aggregate) one point ahead of relegated teams Birmingham City and Blackpool. The game ended in a draw (1-1) and was eventually won by Manchester City on penalties. On the penultimate matchday of the 2008–09 season, the club achieved a 1–1 draw at Barnsley. Palermo finished in sixth place, thus qualifying for the 2005/06 UEFA Cup. Barzagli played his first matches at international club level in that tournament and made eight appearances for Palermo in the UEFA Cup, including the two games in the lost round of 16 against FC Schalke 04. On March 9, 2006, Palermo won 1-0 at home, but a week later in Gelsenkirchen, Schalke defeated the club 3–0. Also in the 2005/06 league season, Barzagli was a regular in the team with playing time in 35 league games (two goals). Only 6% were over 65. So Woolwich has a young population. Woolwich is a historic town and a borough within London's Royal Borough of Greenwich, located in the south east of the British metropolis of Greater London. In 1913 the club moved to the Highbury area of north London, after which the reference to the Woolwich area was removed from the name.
To the west of Woolwich are the historic center of Greenwich and the dynamic Greenwich Peninsula, to the east are sprawling residential areas such as Thamesmead. The Italian football club SSC Napoli has been playing matches in European competitions since 1934. Four times before, the UEFA Champions League final was between an English and an Italian club, with Liverpool FC winning each time. In 1963, 1971 and 1991 the English team won, in 1980 and 1995 the Spanish team won.
In the end, Wolverhampton finished first, nine points ahead of pursuers Cardiff City, which also enforced promotion to the top division of English professional football. Today, London City Airport is located here. Woolwich is identified as a major center in the 2015 London Plan. Woolwich sits at the foot of a 132m high hill, Shooters Hill, the second highest hill within Inner London. The medieval parish of Woolwich was smaller than the later borough, but larger than the two wards (constituencies) that bear the name of Woolwich today. One of the club's surprise signings was Portuguese international Rúben Neves, who was signed from FC Porto in the summer of 2017 for a record £15.8 million in The Championship. The company acquired the club for £45 million from Steve Morgan and his Bridgemere Group.
